Children accepted into our education sponsorship program understand the benefits that an education can provide but, due to the tough economic circumstances in Haiti, are unable to afford the minimum costs of tuition and fees required to attend public school. After submitting an application, they are evaluated by one of our in-country coordinators and must be approved by a member of the Haitian Roots Board of Directors before they are accepted to our program. For $300/year (or $25/month) you help a child attend school -- an opportunity taken for granted by most of us. To the children (and their families) in our sponsorship program, receiving an education means hope for the future and an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. You can change the life of one of these precious children by becoming a sponsor today!
If you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour. If you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn.

Monica Bon Enfant
Monica is 9 years old. Her birthday is February 9th.
Hi! My name is Olsen. I just turned 12 years old on November 28 (born 2003). I attend the Haitian Roots Academy and am in the 6th grade. I live with my mom and little sister. I don’t remember my dad. He left when I was very young. I am kind and like serving others. I often care for my sister when my mom is not around. Maybe this is why I hope to become a doctor or something else in the medical profession someday.
Roodvan is 10 years old. We asked him some questions about himself and received the following information. Roodvan says that he is a happy kid but he often still feels sad and worried about the future because his father was killed in the earthquake and his mother is struggling to care for him and he 2 siblings.

Marcus is 9 years old. He is a very sweet boy. He is also very very smart and gets excellent grades, despite the fact that he feels he is often overcome with worry about the death of is father during the January 2011 earthquake. He said that if he could have any wish in the world it would be that he could always have the means to stay in school and eventually become an IT specialist. When asked what he would do if he was invisible for a day, Marcus said, "I would find a way for people to see me anyway." The things he is most grateful for are: his life, his country, school, his mother and others who help him and his family.
