Our Children

Children accepted into our education sponsorship program understand the benefits that an education can provide but, due to the tough economic circumstances in Haiti, are unable to afford the minimum costs of tuition and fees required to attend public school. After submitting an application, they are evaluated by one of our in-country coordinators and must be approved by a member of the Haitian Roots Board of Directors before they are accepted to our program. For $300/year (or $25/month) you help a child attend school -- an opportunity taken for granted by most of us. To the children (and their families) in our sponsorship program, receiving an education means hope for the future and an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. Peterson Edmond

Peterson is 9 years old. He lives at La Maison Orphanage along with his brother, Richardson. He likes to eat anything made with flour. Peterson loves sports. He had a rough start in life but with the continued nurturance of La Maison and with a supportive sponsor to help him with his education, he has a bright hope for the future.

Pascary Mardy

Pascary is 10 years old. His birthday is February 9th. He would like to be a security officer when he grows up, though what he is most excited for is to be able to learn how to drive! When not in school, Pascary's favorite thing to do is eat. He lives at La Maison with his parents, his two younger sisters, and all of the other children at the orphanage who are like siblings to him.

Nicomia Joseph

Nicomia lives at La Maison Orphanage. When she was first brought to the orphanage she was very weak and malnourished. Our director guessed that she was about 9 months old but she could barely hold up her head. In only a few short months Nicomia can not only hold up her head but she is walking everywhere. We are really excited to see what else she will learn to do. Nicomia is very observant during her preschool and even though she is very young.

Nathanaelle St Fleur

Nathanaelle’s birthday is in September 2008. She lives at La Maison with her younger sister and brother. She is sweet, social and smart. She is excelling in the school at the orphanage and the teacher is hopeful that even though she has never been to school before this year that she will be caught up to grade level by next year.

Mikenchise Belizaire

Mikenchise is 5 years old. She is attending school for the first time at the orphanage preschool where she lives with her 2 older sisters. Her teacher says she is learning quickly. Mikenchise is outgoing and precocious. She is not camera shy or people shy. She loves attention and is so cute that it is easy to give it to her!!

Makenlove Joseph

Makenlove was born February 2012 and he lives at La Maison orphanage. Every volunteer that comes to visit falls in love with Makenlove. He observes what is going on before joining in the fun and he loves being held and read to. Makenlove enjoys his new preschool in the orphanage. The teacher is very good with him.

Johvany Joseph

Johvany was born February 6, 2008. He has lived at the orphanage since 2013. He is quiet around adults but when he is around kids his age he laughs and plays like the rest of them. Johvany enjoys playing soccer, basketball and active games. He gets along well with all the other kids and is sensitive to the needs of others.

Joane Eligene

Joane was birthday is May 15, 2011. She loves fruit snacks. She will play by herself with a balloon for a very long time. She is slow to warm up to strangers but once she knows you she loves to cuddle and read. Joane really likes her new preschool in the orphanage. One time when volunteers came to play she received a balloon and loved it! She played with it laughing, jumping up and down and hitting it up in the air for a solid 30 minutes.

Harielle Mardy

Harielle is 7 years old. She lives at La Maison orphanage with her parents, who are the directors, her brother, Pascary, her baby sister, and the other children who are like siblings to her. Her birthday is March 11th. She enjoys learning to speak French in school. Harielle says she would like to become a doctor one day because, "I know people are suffering and I don't like that." Her favorite food is spaghetti. She also enjoys modeling for the cameras!


Fabie was born on December 20, 2011. She is a sweetheart. She attends the orphanage preschool. She has a little waddle when she walks and giggles when she laughs. She enjoys being thrown up in the air.
