Children accepted into our education sponsorship program understand the benefits that an education can provide but, due to the tough economic circumstances in Haiti, are unable to afford the minimum costs of tuition and fees required to attend public school. After submitting an application, they are evaluated by one of our in-country coordinators and must be approved by a member of the Haitian Roots Board of Directors before they are accepted to our program. For $300/year (or $25/month) you help a child attend school -- an opportunity taken for granted by most of us. To the children (and their families) in our sponsorship program, receiving an education means hope for the future and an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. You can change the life of one of these precious children by becoming a sponsor today!
If you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour. If you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn.

I am Widnaison Gilsaint. I just turned 3 years old on the 13th of November (born 2011). So, this is my first year of school. I attend the Haitian Roots Academy. Although I’m very young, I am very disciplined and think it’s very important that I follow the rules and that others do too! I am the youngest child in a family with three kids.

Even at such a young age, Zratan is keenly aware of the stress that poverty has on his family and community. Bonjou! My name is Medjina. My birthday is 6 January 2007. I live in St. Marc with my parents and my brother. In school, my favorite subject is history. I think it would be good to become a pediatrician one day. When I’m not in school I like to jump rope and read. If I had any wish it would be that when I am older I can go to another country to be able to study in a big university.
Nicomia lives at La Maison Orphanage. When she was first brought to the orphanage she was very weak and malnourished. Our director guessed that she was about 9 months old but she could barely hold up her head. In only a few short months Nicomia can not only hold up her head but she is walking everywhere. We are really excited to see what else she will learn to do. Nicomia is very observant during her preschool and even though she is very young.
