Our Children

Children accepted into our education sponsorship program understand the benefits that an education can provide but, due to the tough economic circumstances in Haiti, are unable to afford the minimum costs of tuition and fees required to attend public school. After submitting an application, they are evaluated by one of our in-country coordinators and must be approved by a member of the Haitian Roots Board of Directors before they are accepted to our program. For $300/year (or $25/month) you help a child attend school -- an opportunity taken for granted by most of us. To the children (and their families) in our sponsorship program, receiving an education means hope for the future and an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. You can change the life of one of these precious children by becoming a sponsor today!

If you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour. If you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn.

Edson Joseph

Hello. My name is Edson. I am 6 years old (born 2010). At school I am enjoying learning a new language--French. I would like to become a professor when I grow up. I like to play soccer, watch television, and eat rice and vegetables when I'm at home. In response to "who is your best friend?", I said, "My Mom." And also in response to the question of what I like best about myself, I said, "My Mom." My teachers say I'm intelligent, good at French and Math, but need to spend a little more time studying at home.

Stephie Fils-Aime

Bonjou. My name is Stephie. I was born on 17 Oct 2005. I live with my aunt who takes care of me. My favorite school subjects are geography and creole. I would like to be a doctor when I grow up. I like to dance. My favorite color is red. I think that it would be neat to visit Chile someday because I know of other Haitians who have moved there. My teachers describe me as very patient and reserved.

Velanda Etienne

Bonjou! I'm Velanda. I turned 4 this year (born 2012). I want to be a teacher when I grow up. When I am at home I am usually working. I like all foods. I love to dance. My favorite color is red. My teachers say that I am very very smart but they worry about me because I live with my aunt and we don't often have the basic clothing or things for me to come to school. But thanks to Haitian Roots, I at least have a chance.

Robenise Etienne

Alo! I'm Robenise. My birthday is 7 July 2005. I am a little behind in school because I haven't always been able to attend school. But I am catching up now. I am learning French, which I really like. I hope to become a nurse. I like to eat vegetables but I don't like ground corn. I love to dance and I love the color pink. I enjoy school and being able to learn with so many other children.

Ketchyna Claude
