Our Children

Children accepted into our education sponsorship program understand the benefits that an education can provide but, due to the tough economic circumstances in Haiti, are unable to afford the minimum costs of tuition and fees required to attend public school. After submitting an application, they are evaluated by one of our in-country coordinators and must be approved by a member of the Haitian Roots Board of Directors before they are accepted to our program. For $300/year (or $25/month) you help a child attend school -- an opportunity taken for granted by most of us. To the children (and their families) in our sponsorship program, receiving an education means hope for the future and an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. Faedra Dorcelus

Faedra is 16 years old. Her birthday is November 4th. She lives with her parents and younger sister, Fredelyne, who is also in the program. Spanish is her favorite subject in school. Faedra would like to become a doctor when she is older because she wants to be able to help those who are sick or injured. She describes herself as kind and gentle. She loves children.


Alixon Rochenel

Hello! My name is Alixon. I am the 4th of 6 children. My birthday is 21 May 2004 so I am 10 years old. I am in 3rd grade right now. I live in Petion-ville and I love to play soccer!


Ruth Christelle Saint Germain

Ruth is 9 years old and her birthday is January 15th. Her favorite subject in school is French. She wants to become a nurse so that she can take care of others. She likes to run and the color pink. Her brother, Colby, is also in the program.


Christopher Jeanty

Hello! I am Christopher. I live with my parents and my older sister in Port au Prince. I turned 7 on September 1st. I am in 2nd grade and doing very well! I am smart just like my sister, Estelle. I like to play and eat.


Jean Mary Gerard Jr.

Jean is 12 years old and his birthday is December 21st. He lives with his mother. His favorite subject in school is English. He would love to become a pilot when he grows up. His favorite sport is soccer. When asked what things he is most grateful for, Jean Mary said, "My church, My mother, YOU, and my Book of Mormon."


Christelle Saintyl

Christelle is 11 years old. Her birthday is November 7th. Her favorite subject in school is math. She hopes to become a nurse some day to be able to take care of the sick. When she is not in school Christelle likes to play, especially jump rope, and also study. If Christelle could wish for one thing it would be that she could leave Haiti and visit other countries.


Paul Mady

Hi! My name is Paul. My birthday is March 14th, 2004. My favorite subject is French. My dream is to become a pilot some day. When I am not in school I enjoy reading and playing soccer with my friends.


Luckenson Paul

Bonjou! My name is Luckenson. My birthday is 3 Nov 2009 and I’m in the 3rd year kindergarten class. I live with my mother and my sister. At school I really like singing and I also like when we learn poems. I want to be a writer someday. My favorite sport is basketball! My best friend is my mom. When I’m not at school I just sleep most of the time. I think someday I can go to Canada to continue my studies and become a great writer! My teacher describes me as humbler and “adorable”! The hardest thing for me is that my father is not in my life and my mother struggles a lot to provide for us.


Aphane Dort

Aphane is 13 years old. Her birthday is May 30th. She lives with her parents and 4 siblings. Two of her siblings, Ashley and Jean Philippe, are also in the program. Her favorite subject is French and she has a fascination with computers. She wants to do something in the field of Computer Science when she grows up. She enjoys playing soccer. Her favorite color is pink!


Saika Pierre

Sanaika is 8 years old. Her birthday is March 4th, 2007. She lives with an aunt and several cousins. Her favorite subject in school is math. She hopes to become a nurse to help Haiti some day. When she is not in school she likes to read. Her favorite color is pink!
