Our Children

Children accepted into our education sponsorship program understand the benefits that an education can provide but, due to the tough economic circumstances in Haiti, are unable to afford the minimum costs of tuition and fees required to attend public school. After submitting an application, they are evaluated by one of our in-country coordinators and must be approved by a member of the Haitian Roots Board of Directors before they are accepted to our program. For $300/year (or $25/month) you help a child attend school -- an opportunity taken for granted by most of us. To the children (and their families) in our sponsorship program, receiving an education means hope for the future and an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. Flora Philistin

Bonjou! I am Flora and my birthday is 28 March 2011. I am in the second year of kindergarten. In school I love it when we learn poems. I want to be a nurse someday. My best friend is Keisha. I hope to visit Miami one day to see if it is beautiful like people say. My best feature is my nose. I love to dance and I’m very confident in myself. My teachers say that I am very intelligent and driven and that nothing can stop me from accomplishing my dreams.


Jean Renald YeYe

Hello, my name is Jean Renald. My birthday is 6 Oct 2006 and I’m in third grade. I live with my mother, sister, and brother. My favorite subjects in school are Math and French. I am good at answering questions and participating in class. My dream is to someday go to the US to study to become a medical doctor.


Chamar Almonord

Bonjou! I am Chamar and my birthday is 7 Dec 2007. I live with my aunt right now. I like learning French, Math, and Reading. I hope to go into medicine after I graduate. I would like to continue my studies in the US. I like to play basketball. My favorite colors are pink and red. My best friend is Kechney. In school my teachers say that I work hard and do a good job but sometimes I’m a bit too social and talk a lot!


Marie Rachelle Cesar

My name is Marie Rachelle Cesar. My birthday is 29 August 2008. I live in Petion-ville, Haiti, with my parents, my twin sister, and my two brothers. I go to the Haitian Roots Academy. I like school and I’m very smart! I would like to become a lawyer one day.


Carli Aston Sartrosi Odeus

This child has a huge name for one so small. We usually just call his Aston. Aston is 4 years old and his birthday is April 13th. He lives with his parents and two younger brothers. His brother, Richemon, is also in the program. Aston is a bright and happy boy and can't wait to start school this fall.


Fransly Pierre

Hi! I’m Frans1y! I was born on Christmas Day in 2008! In school I like studying social science and Creole. I would like to be an engineer when I grow up. When I’m not at school I like to swim, play soccer, and learn how to cook. My favorite food is fish! My teacher says that I’m very good at participating in class and answering questions…but I’m not so good at doing any schoolwork once I’m at home. I’m going to work on that!


Mirielda Mazile

Bonjou! I am Mirielda Mazile. I was born on 10 December 2001. My 2 siblings are also in the Haitian Roots program. I am in 8th grade and I like school very much. I am very happy and easy going. I love to laugh and make others laugh as well.


Macdarline Dilus

Bonjou! My name is Macdaline. My birthday is 10 June 2006. I live with my mother, father, and my sister. I love to read, dance, and color. I am very helpful at school and am very good at math. I am proud of the way I dance. I like helping people so I think I might enjoy becoming a nurse. Also, someday I hope I get to visit Santo Domingo.


Loveline Francois

Hello! I’m Loveline. My birthday is 16 June 2003. I live with my mother and my aunt. I go to the Haitian Roots Academy and my favorite subjects are Franch, Spanish, and Biology. At home I enjoy reading and writing. I hope to study in the Unites States one day and become a doctor!
